Text Box: We are making long term investments in our community when we give Lamar Scholarships. While these sums are minor in comparison to the cost of a college education, these particular scholarships also bring valuable “lessons” to the recipients: THAT FREEMASONS CARE ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITY AND BELIEVE IN EDUCATION FOR ALL. This premise is one of the founding principals of Freemasonry. It seems to me among all our wonderful projects of hospitals, burn centers, degree lessons and fraternal values, that this premise should never be neglected. Text Box:                       Brethren: Each year, members and friends of John DeGrazier Lodge are given the opportunity to contribute directly to the DeGrazier Lamar Scholarship fund. As you might know, this year’s campaign is getting the boost of a $3,000 contribution from our own general operating fund thanks to our successful flu shot program. With the help and assistance of “Senior Moms” at WT White, Hillcrest, and Thomas Jefferson High Schools, we are able to touch the lives of a few select graduating and college bound students. It is most gratifying to look into the lives of the newest college bound students from North Dallas. What do we find? We find young people who are good citizens with excellent credentials seeking “higher knowledge and skills” in what is a very expensive proposition – paying the costs of tuition in today’s colleges. We find students who are living in the “new world” of social and scholastic challenges which no doubt far exceeded those of our own membership. We also find a snap shot of our future in these young people – perhaps future elected officials, or police officers or community leaders, or perhaps a future attorney or physician.
